Case Study: How Alisterr Expanded an Established Agency’s Online Visibility

Campaign

Business Directory Submission, Local SEO & Online Visibility

The Challenge

The client was an established business with years of experience in its industry and strong domain expertise. The challenge was visibility.

Its website and agency had limited presence across business directories and third-party platforms, making it harder for potential clients to discover the business outside its existing network.

The goal was to strengthen that presence through relevant business, agency and local listing platforms while creating additional opportunities for the website to gain visibility through third-party profiles and backlinks.

The Objective

Alisterr focused on three areas

  • Identify relevant business, agency and local listing platforms
  • Expand the client’s presence across third-party platforms
  • Build a broader digital footprint that could support search visibility and future client acquisition

What Alisterr Did

1. Researched Relevant Platforms

Alisterr researched business directories, agency platforms and local listing services relevant to the client’s market.

The campaign covered Canadian business directories and agency-focused platforms, including Yellow Pages Canada, Canada411, Yelp Canada, Canadian Business Directory, BBB Canada, N49, Durham Region Directory, TechBehemoths and Agency Vista.

The campaign also included major local search platforms such as Google Business Profile and Bing Places.

The focus was on relevant platforms where the business could build a useful third-party presence rather than submitting the client indiscriminately to large numbers of directories.

This approach is also reflected in Alisterr’s Business Directory Submission Services, which focuses on relevant directories, accurate business information and structured submissions.

2. Prepared and Submitted Business Information

Alisterr organized the client’s core business information and adapted submissions to individual platform requirements.

The work covered business name, website, contact information, location, categories, services and company information.

The same core business information was maintained across listings to create a more consistent third-party presence.

3. Built Live Directory and Agency Profiles

The campaign resulted in 13 live listings across business directories, agency platforms and local search services.

These included Canadian Business Directory, BBB Canada, N49, Durham Region Directory, TechBehemoths, Agency Vista, Clutch, GoodFirms, The Manifest, Google Business Profile, YourStory, e27 and Crunchbase.

The live profiles gave the client additional third-party locations where potential customers could discover and evaluate the business.

4. Secured Dofollow Backlinks

The work went beyond directory profile creation.

Alisterr also secured multiple dofollow backlinks through relevant business and agency platforms, including BBB, GoodFirms and TechBehemoths.

Some of these links appeared through company profiles, agency directories and industry-focused pages with headlines such as:

  • Top E-commerce Digital Marketing Agencies Reviews 2026
  • 31 Results for Web Designer Near…
  • Web Designer Near Mississippi Station
  • Top 20+ Other Marketing Agencies in Canada
  • Top Retail SEO Companies 2026 Reviews
  • Top WordPress Development Companies 2026 Reviews

These placements created additional third-party pages linking back to the client’s website and expanded its off-page SEO footprint.

The objective was not simply to collect backlinks. Alisterr focused on finding relevant business and agency platforms where the client’s services could be presented in context.

Alisterr also covers the wider strategy in Why Business Directory Submissions Are an Underrated SEO Strategy, which looks at directory visibility, citations and backlinks.

5. Managed Platform-Specific Limitations

Some platforms could not be completed because of restrictions imposed by the platforms themselves, including country-specific eligibility, existing registrations, paid listing requirements or technical limitations.

Alisterr tracked these separately rather than presenting unsuccessful platform attempts as completed listings.

1

Google Business Profile secured

The campaign established live profiles across Canadian business directories, agency platforms and local search services.

Among the live platforms were Clutch, GoodFirms and The Manifest, alongside Google Business Profile, TechBehemoths, BBB Canada and other business directories.

The campaign also created additional third-party pages where the client was featured in agency, SEO, web design and marketing-related searches and lists.

Client Feedback

The client is a repeat customer, continuing to work with Alisterr after the campaign.

The client also shared positive feedback on the SEO progress:

“You’ve done great job for this SEO project. We’ve started to rank. Hopefully, we get some clients in a few months.”

The client also reported seeing initial traffic as the broader SEO work progressed.

The continued relationship gave Alisterr the opportunity to support the client’s wider SEO and online visibility efforts beyond the initial directory campaign.

The Outcome

Alisterr helped the established business build a stronger third-party online presence across business directories, agency platforms and local search services.

The campaign resulted in 13 live listings, including profiles on Clutch, GoodFirms, The Manifest and Google Business Profile, alongside a broader set of business and industry directories.

Alisterr also secured multiple dofollow backlinks through relevant third-party platforms, giving the client’s website additional external visibility and strengthening its broader off-page SEO footprint.

The strategy combined business listings, agency profiles, local visibility and relevant backlink opportunities rather than treating directory submissions as a standalone activity.

For businesses looking at the wider strategy behind this work, Alisterr’s Canadian Business Directory List covers relevant platforms for Canadian businesses.

The Directory & Citation Strategy for AI-Driven Local Visibility guide covers how businesses can maintain consistent information across directories, business profiles and other external sources.

Alisterr also covers citation consistency in Citation Strategy for DTC Brands.

The result was a broader online footprint for a business that already had the industry experience and capability, but needed more opportunities to be discovered online.

Why Alisterr Focuses on Business Visibility, Not Bulk Backlinks

Many SEO services sell packages of 50 to 100 backlinks at a fixed price, but a high backlink count does not necessarily translate into better visibility. These links can come from low-quality or unrelated domains and may have little relevance to the industry or the searches that matter to a business. Alisterr takes a different approach by focusing on building the business’s presence across relevant and credible directories where potential customers can actually find company information, services and website details.

The goal is to strengthen the business’s credibility and online visibility first, with relevant backlinks serving as a secondary benefit of being present on these platforms. This approach is particularly important when someone searches for the business or agency itself, because the objective is to give them useful and credible information about the company rather than simply increase the number of links pointing to its website.
